Straight out of the saltiest streams comes a duo of thundering dark techno tracks that will make even the most ingrained forest troll shake the moss from its rear end! The associations of frothy spirals, rain-sprayed moss and fungi on bark heavily spiced by the sea's own food spice are prominent. Before you know it, you are thrown into the dance, not knowing if you are still on the floor or if you have strayed into the fjord.

“Schiist is a project that was initially started to learn some new techniques for making loops. The songs on Borra were therefore not really intended for release. Draug Media was given free rein to make its mark on the music. Truls Andersen has had full freedom to get started on the songs and explored different ways to extract information from the soundscape. Steffen Andersen had the opportunity to create the image he himself thought best suited. David wrote a few words about the music. All participants have managed to contribute to this being a release that was worth publishing. Thank you!

“The name Schiist is a misspelling of the metamorphic rock Schist. The same goes for the song titles on Borra: they are variations of old local names from Salten. The photo that accompanies the release is of an orchid that grows locally and was taken in Tverlandet. It is called Ophrys insectifera or Fly orchid. It has evolved to mimic specific insects in order to transmit pollen and is one of several orchids found in the district.

“The release is inspired by currents, change and adaptation. The songs fit well as musical metaphors for the home area. The songs are not made with this in mind, but are written with a view of Saltstraumen, Børa and Saltfjorden.”
